How the 2020 F Gas Regulations could affect you

In just over 1 months’ time F-Gas Regulations will come into effect, banning the use of refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of over 2500 – are you ready?

Getting ahead of the game is imperative. The new F-gas ban takes effect on 1 January 2020 and you need to be sure that your business won’t suffer as a result.

How do I know if my refrigerant could need servicing or replacing?

If the refrigerant in the system has a GWP of greater than 2,500, then you will not be able to service or refill your refrigeration system in case of failure. With this in mind, you should look to see if your refrigeration system needs one of these refrigerants to service it.  If this is the case, you should review your options to change the refrigerant as soon as possible.

Here at Ryan-Jayberg, we are a refrigeration company, who can provide an F Gas Regulations summary so you’re at ease about the changes and can have fully compliant refrigerants ready for the new year.

What refrigeration systems do the F-Gas Regulations apply to?

If your refrigeration system falls into any of the categories below and uses hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) refrigerants, then you should look to change your refrigerants before the regulations come into effect as replacements will not be available and could delay repairs:

  • Small hermetically sealed systems – Examples of these include ice cream freezers, bottle coolers and retail displays.
  • Condensing units – These are larger-scale systems used to run commercial display cabinets, blast chillers and freezers. Typically used in small shops or convenience stores.
  • Central pack systems – These are normally used by supermarkets and larger shops to run large amounts of refrigerated equipment.

I think the F-Gas Regulations apply to my refrigerator – what should I do?

To obtain an expert opinion on what refrigerant your system requires and to see if it falls into one of the above categories, get in touch with the Ryan-Jayberg team. We will visit your workplace, calculate the GWP of your refrigerant and review the system hardware to determine whether you need to upgrade your refrigeration system or change the refrigerant you use.  We can give you expert advice on what to do next, and how to avoid being impacted by the upcoming regulations.
